As a whole, this generation is less active, and is moving toward apathy. When it comes to certain issues, people have a passion for what they believe in, the problem is they do not do anything about it. There are a lot of reasons that lead up to that. One being student’s deficiency in world information. More people would be active if they knew that certain problems existed. The media poorly covers certain news issues, resulting in poorly informed citizens. There are a lot of problems that affect people, but the people are ignorant of it. Nowadays, a lot of people are extremely busy with their chaotic lives. Being caught up in their own world leads to a lack of knowledge and a lack of motivation for doing something.
The world holds more followers then leaders. Someone needs to start a movement in order for more people to be active in it. Most people might feel the need to change the world or something about it, but they will only do so if someone else has already started to. A lot of people will either not tolerate, or they do not have the courage it takes to be the primary activist.
There are a few ways to prevent this impending apathy. Improving the media, so people can discover the problems in the world would help immensely. That would lead to more people speaking out, which would improve student’s involvement.
Very good, thought provoking post. Your point on students needing more info about world affairs is very apt. At the same time, there is a flood of so much other info, that it is difficulty to know what is important. Great insights! Thanks.
