‘McJobs’ are good for extra money, but some of their policies need to be improved. My ‘McJob’ was working at King’s restaurant. I worked as a hostess and a cashier. It was not a job I was overly fond of. There would be times when I would be standing there bored, counting down the hours, with nothing better to do then count the number of ceiling tiles. Other times I would be overly stressed with a lot of work to do. It was very inconsistent, and my managers were very irresponsible. I had three managers and one district manager. Not all of them were bad, but for the most part they would be hard to work with. One night I had to stay three hours after closing time. My manager had lost his card, and I could not count down my register without it. I had to wait until another manager came with his card, until I could leave. There were times when I would let the managers know I was not going to be able to work certain days, and they would schedule me to work those days anyway. I got fed up with all the chaos and disorganization that was in my job. There was a time when one of the people working there cornered and sexually harassed one of their coworkers. He only got a warning and was still put on the same work shifts as the girl. He was in his forties, she was only sixteen. I know not all the McJobs jobs are like that. It just depends where and with who you work with. I also realize I had the choice to work there or not, the same choice everyone else has. No one is forced to work those type jobs, but some of the working conditions should still be improved.
