Anthony Giddens makes both strong and weak points in his view of globalizing. His idea on world leadership becoming weaker is debatable. Politics are not less significant due to globalization. Political figures still hold as much value and power as they did before globalization got big. Trading and sharing ideas with different cultures does not lower the importance of Politics.
Globalization spreads new ideas to cultures, but id does not reform societies into a universal culture. A McDonalds in Spain does not change Spanish culture into American culture. Granted, there is no need to have numerous multinational corporations all over the place, but a few do not hurt the world. Having similarities and being the same are two different things.
More people having the opportunity to retain modern day appliances is not a bad thing. We just run the risk of the world holding lazier people with nothing better to do than watch TV. Besides that, other countries have access to computers and the internet; which increases their economies, and thus, modern day technology is a benefit.
